Kaptur Statement on President Biden’s Address to Joint Session of Congress
Washington, D.C. – Today, Congresswoman Marcy Kaptur (D-OH), released the following statement on President Joe Biden’s Address to a Joint Session of Congress. Rep. Kaptur attended the speech in person.
“Of the Presidential addresses I’ve had the honor to attend in my career, this address may have met the moment more than any other,” said Rep. Kaptur. “The grace and decorum we expect from President Biden was on full display this evening, as he clearly articulated the many successes of his first 100 days and his vision to get the pandemic under control, put working families first in our economy, and restore faith and trust in government.”
“President Biden has achieved no shortage of major milestones in his first 100 days – from delivering 200 million coronavirus shots for the American people, to opening vaccine eligibility to every person over 16. He successfully signed into law a $1.9 trillion COVID relief bill less than two months into his time in office and has taken major steps to undo the misguided decisions of the previous administration.
“Today, President Biden unveiled his American Families Plan, a historic investment in our kids, families, and shared economic future. Far too many Americans, especially in communities across northern Ohio, are struggling to cover basic expenses. An economy that fails so many is not only unfair, it’s unsustainable. President Biden’s American Families Plan will be a once-in-a-generation investment in the foundations of middle-class prosperity: education, healthcare, and childcare. We’ve desperately needed to hit the reset button on so many issues facing the American people, from immigration and gun safety, to public safety and economic prosperity. President Biden has delivered real results for the American people in his first 100 days and today’s speech shows that he has a plan to further build on those successes.”
