Kaptur Applauds Progress Made in First 100 Days of Democratic House Majority

Washington, D.C. — Today, Congresswoman Marcy Kaptur (OH-09) applauded the historic legislative achievements made in the first 100 of the new Democratic Majority in the House of Representatives:

"In the first 100 days of the new Democratic Majority, the House has taken major steps to improve the lives of working people in Northern Ohio and across the United States," said Rep. Kaptur. "From H.R. 1, which makes vital reforms to federal ethics laws and would get big money out of politics, to the strongest reauthorization of the Violence Against Women Act in decades, to the Paycheck Fairness Act, which would guarantee every American receives equal pay for equal work, House Democrats have pursued a bold agenda that puts our people first."

"The House also passed the bipartisan H.R. 1271, the Veterans'-Specific Education for Tomorrow's Health Professionals Act, legislation I am honored to have introduced. This bill lays the groundwork to help fill the nearly 50,000 medical vacancies at the Department of Veterans Affairs by creating a viable pipeline of future physicians and medical professionals. We are bettered by the many efforts the House has already made for America's families and I look forward to achieving more progress for the people of Northern Ohio."

In the first 100 days, House Democrats have already moved quickly to advance bold health care legislation and aggressive oversight of abuses in health care that have had a direct impact on the lives of the American people. On day one of the Congress, House Democrats voted to throw the full legal weight of the House of Representatives against the Texas v. United States lawsuit backed by President Trump which would dismantle protections for people with pre-existing conditions and strike down the Affordable Care Act. Under Democrats, House committees have already held more than 25 health care hearings and markups, reporting 13 bills out of committee to lower health costs and prescription drug prices. House Democrats have also introduced sweeping new legislation, the Protecting Pre-Existing Conditions and Making Health Care More Affordable Act (H.R. 1884), which would lower health insurance premiums for an estimated 13 million Americans, according to the Center for Budget and Policy Priorities.

Democrats' signature infrastructure plan is also underway, with House Committees already having held more than 35 hearings on America's infrastructure needs, and the Rebuild America's Schools Act (H.R.865) already reported out of the Education and Labor Committee.
