LORAIN, OHIO - Lorain Fire Department could be getting good news regarding its future tomorrow morning.
A news release indicated Congresswoman Marcy Kaptur will outline a 'big development' related to the department's recent first-responder layoffs. The city laid off 22 firefighters earlier this month, leaving the department without roughly one third of its workers.
Congresswoman Kaptur is expected to have a video conference with Lorain's Fire Chief Tom Brown, members of the department and City Mayor Chase Ritenauer at 9:30 a.m. The discussion will take place at the Lorain Fire Department Central Fire Station located on Broadway Avenue in Lorain.
Kaptur is on the House Appropriations Committee, the House Fire Caucus and is the dean of Ohio's delegation to Congress. She will be using a video conference to discuss the development, as she is in Washington, D.C. this week.
