Washington, D.C. — Congresswoman Marcy Kaptur (D-9th District) on Friday announced the Kelleys Island Land Field Airport has secured $171,100 in a Federal Aviation Administration competitive grant award.
The money will go toward designated runway improvements, to include new sealing and remarking of 2,203 feet of Runway 9/27 to “maintain the structural integrity of the pavement and to minimize foreign object debris,” stated a release from Kaptur’s office.
“This is wonderful news for the residents of Kelleys Island,” Kaptur said. “The residents competed for this grant against a number of other airports, almost all of which are larger in size, and it is to their credit that they were selected.”
This is the airport’s second FAA grant in three years. In 2014, Kelleys Island Land Field Airport received $369,000 to acquire 1.1 acres to extend a runway.
