Congresswoman Marcy Kaptur announced Tuesday a federal award of $172,000 to NeighborWorks Toledo Region by NeighborWorks America. The funds will be used to support efforts to revitalize and sustain Toledo neighborhoods, promote and preserve affordable housing, and create and sustain jobs through local projects and activities.
“Affordable housing is essential for Toledo residents to support their families and maintain steady employment,” said Rep. Kaptur. “I am pleased that NeighborWorks America recognizes the critical work being done by our Toledo NeighborWorks organization. This funding supports homegrown efforts to develop innovative housing designs and develop home maintenance skills. Such efforts are an important tool in maintaining and revitalizing communities while increasing the availability of affordable housing for more of our community’s residents. I applaud NeighborWorks America for the important work they do and on the award of this competitive grant.”
“NeighborWorks America is proud to distribute these federal funds to organizations across the country to support their excellent work in communities. The NeighborWorks network organizations provide affordable housing opportunities, build strong neighborhoods, and create jobs. We at NeighborWorks America focus on being careful stewards of the resources the taxpayers have entrusted to us,” said NeighborWorks America’s President and CEO Paul Weech. “A strong indicator of the value of these grants is that in FY 2015, the NeighborWorks America network leveraged $50 dollars of other investments for every $1 in federal appropriation – resulting in a direct investment of $6.7 billion in communities last fiscal year. NeighborWorks’ investments are working to truly make a difference in communities across the country.”
This grant funding is available as part of FY 2016 monies appropriated through Public Law 114-39– the Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2016.
