The US House of Representatives Appropriations Committee yesterday (9 June) approved the FY2107 Financial Services Bill, and also adopted an amendment which calls for the restoration of mail delivery standards to the 1 July 2012 level.
The amendment, which came from the Ohio Representative Marcy Kaptur, was adopted on a 30-17 voice vote.
If enacted, the legislation would cancel the reduced service standards which the US Postal Service (USPS) introduced in January 2015.

Deborah Lee James, U.S. secretary of the Air Force, visited the Ohio Air National Guard 180th Fighter Wing on Monday, the first time an Air Force secretary has appeared at the base.
Mrs. James, addressing questions about whether her visit was related to the Air Force’s search for two facilities to house the new F-35A Joint Strike Fighter jets, said Toledo is absolutely being considered.
“Toledo has a lot going for it,” Mrs. James said. “I’m really impressed with everything going on here.”

North America’s first offshore freshwater wind project has received a $40 million boost from the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE).
In somewhat of a surprise decision, the funding was awarded to Lake Erie Energy Development Co (LEEDCo) for its “Icebreaker” project, which consists of six 3.45-megawatt turbines located 8-10 miles off the coast of Cleveland.

The revitalization of a downtown Toledo icon got a big boost from the federal government on Thursday.
U.S. Rep. Marcy Kaptur (D., Toledo) announced that funding for the $104 million upgrade and expansion of the historic James M. Ashley and Thomas W.L. Ashley Courthouse has been finalized.
The announcement was made at the beginning of the Civic Center Mall oversight commission’s first meeting in months.
