Congressional Ukraine Caucus Statement on US Policy Shift Allowing Ukraine to Strike Military Targets in Russia with American-Supplied Weapons

June 3, 2024

Washington, DC – Today, the Co-Chairs of the bipartisan Congressional Ukraine Caucus – Representatives Marcy Kaptur (D-OH-09), Brian Fitzpatrick (R-PA-01), Mike Quigley (D-IL-05), and Joe Wilson (R-SC-02) – released the following statement on the US shift in policy to allow Ukraine to carry out limited strikes with American-supplied weapons on Russian military targets across the border.

“We commend the Biden administration’s decision to allow Ukraine to strike military targets across the Russian border with US-supplied weapons,” said the Co-Chairs of the Congressional Ukraine Caucus. “Since the war began, the Ukrainians have been restricted to where they could execute attacks against Russian forces. Facing one of the largest armies in the world, it is imperative that we allow them to expand their capabilities. President Zelenskyy and the Ukrainian Rada have made clear this strategic shift can bolster their defenses of critical Ukrainian territory and effectively combat Russian offensives on Kharkiv and Sumy, thereby better protecting civilian populations and key defensive positions. This policy shift reassures our partners in Ukraine that our commitment to defense against autocratic aggression is unwavering.”
