February 2: Kaptur Observes National African American History Month
"This is a month to reflect on some of the greatest examples of our nation's founding principles – freedom and equality.
"It is a time to recognize the courageous leaders who fought to end slavery and to extend civil rights to all Americans. We also remember the quiet heroes who work to protect our great progress in establishing a more perfect Union.
"President Obama, who has greatly advanced the vision of equality as the first African American President, provided wonderful insight in his official proclamation that 'During National African American History Month, we pay tribute to the contributions of past generations and reaffirm our commitment to keeping the American dream alive for the next generation.'"
"I encourage all Ohioans to reflect and find inspiration in the commemoration of National African American History Month."
