Due in large part to $25 million in federal funds secured byCongresswoman Kaptur, Brush Engineered Materials, Inc. recentlyannounced a $90 million investment to construct a primary berylliumfacility to supply the U.S. Department of Defense.
The innovative public-private partnership will result in a new facilityto complement Brush Wellman’s existing factory in Elmore. The newfacility will result in the creation of at least 25 jobs and retentionof approximately 118 jobs.
“The workmanship and professionalism at this facility are unmatched,”said Congresswoman Kaptur, who noted that the Elmore plant had beat outseveral other sites for the project.
“You play an important role in our national defense,” Kaptur said. “You are absolutely the best that America has to offer.”
Brush CEO Richard Hipple said the company will contribute research anddevelopment, technology, land and buildings and will provide ongoingoperations. The government, meanwhile, will fund engineering, designand equipment.
The end result will be a sustainable domestic supply of primaryberyllium, which is a strategic material with applications in defense,aerospace and optical scanning markets.
