Press Release

Washington, D.C. – Congresswoman Marcy Kaptur (OH-09) today announced a federal award of over $200,000 to the Bay Village and Sheffield Lake Fire Departments under the Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) program. The operations and safety award funds much needed personal protective equipment, training, and supplies that support firefighting and non-affiliated EMS operations and safety. The Bay Village Fire Department will receive $137,048 and the Sheffield Lake Fire Department, $64,762.

“Our firefighters and first responders put their lives on the line to protect people and property every day. Federal support for first responders helps us fulfill our nation’s promise to these public servants,” said Kaptur. “This crucial federal assistance for the Bay Village and Sheffield Lake Fire Departments will help our community firefighters stay safe and protect our citizens from harm's way. The Assistance to Firefighters program is a helping hand to our cities and towns. As a member of the Congressional Fire Services Caucus, I will continue to fight to ensure our communities in Northern Ohio are positioned to get the help they need to properly equip first responders.”

The AFG program awards grants directly to fire departments and EMS organizations to enhance their ability to protect the health and safety of the public. Since 2001, AFG has assisted fire departments and other first responders to obtain the resources needed to protect the public and emergency personnel from fire and related hazards.
