April 12, 2023

Toledo, OH – Today, Congresswoman Marcy Kaptur (OH-09), Ranking Member of the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Energy and Water Development announced a $200,000 grant award to the Metropolitan Park District of the Toledo Area. The funding is provided by the U.S. Forest Service through the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative (GLRI) under an agreement with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. The city of Toledo will partner with Metroparks Toledo to plant 15,000 trees in city of Toledo parks. The program will be funded through this $200,000 Forest Service grant, and the trees will help reduce the need to mow grass and help curb other upkeep costs.

“This investment in Toledo shows much needed federal investment in our local environment and green spaces both in Toledo and across the Great Lakes region,” said Rep. Kaptur. “This is just another example of the thousands of projects that have been funded through the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative which I helped champion. I was glad to help fight for this award for the Toledo area, and I will continue to call for further investment in our region that will help to repair our ecosystems and benefit our environment and our people.”
