Kaptur Announces $700K Jobs & Infrastructure Bill Grant for Put-in-Bay Coastal Resilience Project
Washington, D.C. – Today, Representative Marcy Kaptur (OH-09) announced Put-in-Bay would receive $700,000 in federal funding through the bipartisan Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act for a coastal resilience and shoreline restoration project.
Today, the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation (NWF) and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) awarded Put-in-Bay $700,000 through the bipartisan Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act to construct a living shoreline at Scheeff East Point Preserve on South Bass Island.
Combined with $950,000 in matching funds from Put-in-Bay, the $1.65 million project will remove foreign debris and utilize a variety of natural shoreline restoration techniques – including the placement of trees, boulders, native vegetation, and beach materials – to stabilize the shoreline and enhance wetland and aquatic habitats for native species.
“Put-in-Bay and South Bass Island’s natural beauty are true gems of Lake Erie that must be protected,” said Rep. Kaptur. “Thanks to the bipartisan Jobs and Infrastructure Bill, we are delivering federal resources that will support the local economy and strengthen these shores and precious habitats for the enjoyment and benefit of residents and visitors alike.”
