Kaptur Announces $75,000 USDA Investment to Repair and Rehabilitate Rural Homes in Erie County
January 6, 2026
Sandusky, OH – Today, Congresswoman Marcy Kaptur (OH-09) highlighted a $75,000 federal investment awarded to the Erie County Board of Developmental Disabilities through the US Department of Agriculture’s Housing Preservation Grant (HPG) program, bringing critical resources to help repair and rehabilitate rural housing in the Sandusky area.
“This investment is about dignity, safety, and opportunity for our neighbors here in Erie County,” said Congresswoman Marcy Kaptur (OH-09). “Every Ohioan deserves a safe place to call home. These funds will help ensure that families, seniors, and individuals with disabilities can remain in their homes with the security and accessibility they need to live full, independent lives. Strong communities are quite literally built from the ground up.”
The USDA Housing Preservation Grant program supports repairs for low- and very low-income rural residents, including fixes to roofs, foundations, electrical systems, heating, and water disposal systems, as well as accessibility upgrades for individuals with disabilities. The $75,000 award will help preserve existing housing stock while supporting local trades and jobs across the region.
The Erie County award is part of nearly $1 Million in Housing Preservation Grants announced statewide, funding 12 projects across Ohio. Nationwide, USDA Rural Development awarded $13.1 Million in HPG funding in the previous fiscal year to support rural housing repairs.
