Kaptur Announces Grant to Expand Manufacturing Workforce Training in Northwest Ohio
Washington, D.C. – Today, Representative Marcy Kaptur (OH-09) announced the U.S. Economic Development Administration is awarding $23.5 million to the Ohio Manufacturers’ Association to expand manufacturing workforce training throughout Ohio.
Today, the U.S. Economic Development Administration (EDA) awarded the Ohio Manufacturers’ Association (OMA) a $23.5 million grant to expand manufacturing workforce training throughout Ohio. As part of the statewide grant, the Northwest Ohio Manufacturing Alliance (NOMA) will receive $930,000. NOMA members include Altenloh, Brinck & Co; Betco; PBE; Regal; Rosenboom; Sauder; Spangler; Advance Group; American Manufacturing; Arrow; First Solar; Innovative Controls; Glassline; PD&B; VM Systems; and Yarder Manufacturing.
Funded through the American Rescue Plan – which Rep. Kaptur helped pass in 2021 without any Republican votes – EDA’s Good Jobs Challenge grant will fund a workforce training program led by OMA’s Educational and Industrial Development Institute. The program will bring together Ohio manufacturers with local community organizations, community colleges, and labor unions to provide specialized skills training to workers that empowers them to secure good-paying jobs in advanced manufacturing sectors that are essential to American supply chains, global competitiveness, and regional development.
“Made up of the hardworking men and women who make, build, and grow America, manufacturing is the backbone of Ohio’s Middle Class,” said Rep. Kaptur. “Today, the American Rescue Plan is delivering in a big way to strengthen Northwest Ohio’s manufacturing base and provide workers with the high-tech skills they need for in-demand careers. By bringing together workers and industry, the Economic Development Administration’s Good Jobs Challenge grant will position our workers to be ready for the good-paying manufacturing jobs they deserve.”
“A trained workforce is essential to ensuring that the United States can compete and succeed in the 21st century,” said U.S. Department of Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo. “Thanks to funding from the American Rescue Plan, the Commerce Department is able to make once-in-a-generation investments in industry-driven, and locally-led workforce systems that will create high-quality jobs and accelerate regional economic growth, especially for underserved communities.”
“The OMA is honored to be a Good Jobs Challenge grantee,” said Ohio Manufacturers’ Association Managing Director of Workforce Services Sara Tracey. “The level of collaboration and commitment from manufacturers and state partners is unprecedented, and as a network, we’re ready to make monumental change. Our emphasis will be on reaching job seekers from under-represented members of our communities to fill good jobs in manufacturing facilities across Ohio.”
