Kaptur Announces Nearly $400,000 Federal Research Award to University of Toledo for Alzheimer’s Disease Study

Toledo, OH – Today, Congresswoman Marcy Kaptur (OH-09) announced that the University of Toledo has been recognized with a new federal research award totaling $387,549 from the National Institute on Aging, part of the US Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). This funding will support cutting-edge research into the potential effects of L-Rha and L-Rha derivatives on neurodegenerative processes associated with Alzheimer’s disease.

The award, made under the Exploratory/Developmental Grants program, will fund research led by Dr. Peter R. Andreana, professor at the University of Toledo. The project will run through August 2027.

Alzheimer’s disease, the most common form of dementia, affects over six million Americans and remains without a cure. This award will enable University of Toledo researchers to explore novel approaches in addressing the disease’s progression and potential treatment strategies. This award is part of the federal government’s ongoing commitment to supporting aging research and advancing scientific discoveries that improve health outcomes for older Americans.
