Kaptur Announces Significant EPA Investment for Clean School Buses in Perrysburg and Evergreen, Ohio

June 20, 2024

Toledo, OH – Today, Congresswoman Marcy Kaptur, Ranking Member of the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Energy and Water Development, announced that the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has awarded substantial rebates to two school districts in Northwest Ohio as part of the 2023 Clean School Bus Program. Funded by the Biden Administration’s Investing in America agenda, this initiative will accelerate the transition to zero-emission vehicles, replacing older school buses linked to asthma and other health conditions.

Perrysburg Exempted Village School District has been awarded $400,000 toward the purchase of 16 clean school buses, significantly enhancing the district’s transportation fleet with zero-emission vehicles. This investment will ensure that students in Perrysburg enjoy a healthier environment and cleaner air.

Evergreen Local School District will receive $50,000 to help purchase 2 clean school buses, marking a vital step towards modernizing the district’s transportation system. These new buses will help reduce harmful emissions and promote a safer, cleaner environment for students and the surrounding community.

"The Investing in America agenda is delivering real benefits to our communities right here in Northwest Ohio. These new clean school buses will ensure our children breathe cleaner air and enjoy a healthier environment. This funding is a significant step towards reducing harmful emissions and protecting the well-being of our students,” said Congresswoman Kaptur, Ranking Member of the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Energy and Water Development. “The Clean School Bus Program was created through funding from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, providing $5 Billion to replace older diesel buses with electric, propane, and compressed natural gas (CNG) buses. These new vehicles emit significantly fewer emissions, contributing to cleaner air and healthier communities, in a true win-win.”

The Clean School Bus Program not only addresses the pressing need to reduce greenhouse gas emissions but also provides financial relief to school districts by lowering maintenance and fuel costs. This initiative is part of a broader effort to combat the climate crisis and promote sustainable practices nationwide. School districts are encouraged to apply for the ongoing 2024 Clean Heavy-Duty Vehicles Grant Program, which offers up to $932 Million in funding for new, zero-emission school buses.
