Kaptur, Fitzpatrick Statement on Russia’s Nuclear Threats

July 8, 2022

Washington, D.C. – Today, Representatives Marcy Kaptur (D-OH-09) and Brian Fitzpatrick (R-PA-01) – Co-Chairs of the bipartisan Congressional Ukraine Caucus – released the following statement on Russia’s nuclear threats.

“At this very moment, the endurance of global peace and security is being jeopardized unlike any time in the modern era. Russia’s mobilization risks not only the destruction of Ukraine and the killing of tens of thousands of innocents, it increases the likelihood of nuclear escalation. Ukraine’s right to exist as a sovereign nation is without question. The world has a right to be free of the threat of nuclear annihilation. In the face of this truly global crisis, the United States and our allies in NATO and the European Union must be in lockstep – unwavering in their support for President Zelenskyy and Ukraine. All great nations – particularly those with nuclear weapons – must fortify their resolve and work toward peace in Ukraine and on the European continent. Peace and security are not guaranteed. They must be actively sought to achieve.”
