Ney, Ohio – Congresswoman Marcy Kaptur (OH-09) joined Fire Chief Justin Sheets and the Ney-Washington Fire Department (NWFD) to celebrate the grand opening of their new state-of-the-art firehouse facility. In addition to marking the completion of the new firehouse, Congresswoman Kaptur proudly announced the awarding of $671,428 in federal funding to the department for the acquisition of a new pumper/tanker truck, ensuring enhanced firefighting capabilities for the community. “We stand here today at a new facility that will help support the important work of our first responders and safeguard this community for generations to come,” said Congresswoman Marcy Kaptur (OH-09). “This is more than just brick and mortar — it's a testament to the heart and resilience of communities across Defiance County. Our first responders show up when seconds count. With this new equipment, they’ll be better prepared to answer the call. It’s a privilege to represent communities like Ney and to support their efforts to keep our families and our communities safe.”
The NWFD Open House saw an impressive turnout, with local residents, officials, and supporters in attendance. The event highlighted the close bond between the department and the community it serves. Fire Chief Justin Sheets expressed his gratitude to those who made the event possible and emphasized the community's vital role in supporting the department.
“We’ve always known our community was one of the best, but the turnout we received for our Open House today was truly heartwarming,” said Fire Chief Justin Sheets. “We had a full station almost the entire time and are beyond blessed to receive such incredible support. We cannot thank everyone enough who took time out of their busy schedules to join us, including Congresswoman Kaptur, State Representative Jim Hoops, Deputy Fire Marshal Richard Sluder, and Defiance County Commissioners Mick Procratsky and Dana Phipps, many past members and the family members of past members.”
The new firehouse, equipped with the latest technology and facilities, will serve as a crucial hub for emergency response in the region. The addition of the pumper/tanker truck, made possible through federal funds, will bolster the department’s ability to handle complex emergencies and provide lifesaving services to the surrounding community.
