Kaptur Nominates Jim Clyburn for Democratic Leadership, Congratulates him on Win
Washington, D.C. – Today, Representative Marcy Kaptur (OH-09) released the following statement after nominating Representative Jim Clyburn (SC-06) to serve as House Democratic Assistant Minority Leader.
Today, during the House Democratic Caucus’s organizing meeting for the 118th Congress, Rep. Kaptur led the caucus in formally nominating Rep. Clyburn to serve as House Democratic Assistant Minority Leader. After Rep. Kaptur spoke in support of his nomination, Rep. Clyburn was confirmed via acclamation of the caucus.
“Jim Clyburn is a great American and a trusted leader. He not only inspires, he motivates. His seniority in life – and his 30 years of service in Congress – are pure gold,” said Rep. Kaptur.
“Northwest Ohio, where people have heard so many promises, so many unfulfilled – they admire and respect Jim’s proud record of accomplishment. Over the course of our campaign, I did not bring in outsiders. I wanted to keep the focus local. But I did ask Jim to come, and of course he did. He articulated the case for our party as only he can do, raising up those around him, lifting everyone’s spirits and hopes.
“His precious depth is infused with the experience of a rugged life well lived. Jim understands the long wick of American progress. We need his steady hand. What I admire so much about Jim is he inspires all of us to reach up and reach out to all in need, to not just to find common ground with one another, but to seek a higher ground, to raise up our nation – and lift up all around him.
