Kaptur “Rolls-Out” New Mobile Medical Unit With University Of Toledo And TESCO
Oregon, OH — Today, Congresswoman Marcy Kaptur (OH-09) was joined by University of Toledo President, Dr. Gregory Postel, and CEO of TESCO (Transportation Equipment Sales Corporation) Bud Graham for a news conference and ribbon cutting to unveil and roll-out a new mobile medical clinic in partnership with the University of Toledo Medical Center. The mobile medical unit was secured through $500,000 in federal funding secured by Congresswoman Kaptur in FY2022 Community Project Funding. The University contracted with TESCO, a third-generation, family-owned commercial bus distributor business in Oregon, to acquire and retrofit the mobile unit.
“I was proud to bring home $500,000 in federal funding for the University of Toledo to establish its own mobile medical unit. This unit is important, because many healthcare providers are investing in improving health outcomes and patient experience, and mobile health is increasingly a path toward versatile, timely medical care,” said Congresswoman Marcy Kaptur. “Mobile clinics operate as rolling medical offices that can provide a variety of health care services, often in medically underserved areas, and for hard to reach individuals. These mobile medical units will also make it easier to reach those in rural communities across Northwest Ohio that often lack access to nearby medical facilities.”
“This state-of-the art rolling clinic would not be possible without Congresswoman Kaptur, who worked to secure the funding that allowed us to purchase this vehicle and have it built by the team here at Tesco. We’re grateful for Representative Kaptur understanding the value of this mobile clinic and to have right in our backyard a company with years of experience building these types of vehicles,” said University of Toledo President, Dr. Gregory Postel. “We also want to recognize Anthem for its support of this important initiative. With this new mobile clinic, we will improve our ability to serve the community with a full complement of medical services by meeting them where they are.”
Many healthcare providers are investing in improving health outcomes and patient experience — mobile health is increasingly a path toward versatile, timely medical care. Mobile clinics operate as rolling medical offices that can provide a variety of health care services, often in medically underserved areas. Crucially, mobile medical clinics can provide screening of underlying medical conditions and life-saving preventative care for hard to reach individuals. The UTMC medical staff onboard these vehicles, residents, medical students, and physicians, can diagnose and treat basic care issues such as sore throats, allergies, high blood pressure and provide critical information on nutritional requirements. They can identify cancer and even treat coronary artery disease through trans myocardial revascularization (TMR). They can also screen for child and adolescent behavioral health along with addiction.
