Kaptur Statement on Appointment to  House Appropriations Subcommittees

Washington, DC – Congresswoman Marcy Kaptur (OH-09) released the following statement regarding her appointments on the House Appropriations Committee. Congresswoman Kaptur will serve as Ranking Member of the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Energy and Water Development, will return to the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Defense, and will rejoin the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Agriculture, Rural Development, Food and Drug Administration, and Related Agencies. 

"Leading the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Energy and Water Development has been an honor and a privilege – I look forward to serving as Ranking Member to continue to strengthen America's clean energy future, rebuild and maintain our nation's critical energy and water infrastructure, protect our environmental resources, and invest in high-quality jobs in America’s Heartland," said Rep. Kaptur. "I will continue my fight to improve the lives of the American people by implementing an agenda that will put the health and longevity of our communities and planet first, increase funding for clean energy programs, and vigorously defend our priceless natural resources, including the Great Lakes, from contamination and the ever increasing threat of climate change. I thank my colleagues on the Appropriations Committee for entrusting me with this important responsibility." 

The House Appropriations Subcommittee on Energy and Water Development has jurisdiction over funding levels for the Department of Energy, Army Corps of Engineers (Civil), Bureau of Reclamation, and related agencies. 

In the 118th Congress, Rep. Kaptur will also serve as a senior member of the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Defense, which has jurisdiction over the Department of Defense, Office of the Director of National Intelligence, and the Central Intelligence Agency. As a member of the subcommittee, Rep. Kaptur has been instrumental in safeguarding Ohio’s defense assets, including Toledo’s 180th TFG and Lima’s Army Tank Plant which produces M1A1 Abrams Tanks for the U.S. Military. Rep. Kaptur will also rejoin the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Agriculture, Rural Development, Food and Drug Administration, and Related Agencies, which has jurisdiction over the Department of the Agriculture (USDA), the USDA Rural Development Agencies, and the United States Food and Drug Administration from which she previously initiated the Senior Farmers Market Coupon Program which links thousands of Ohio seniors to locally grown produce and has advanced Ohio’s flourishing urban gardening industry.
