Kaptur Statement on First Solar’s $185M Expansion in Northwest Ohio
Washington, D.C. – Today, Representative Marcy Kaptur (OH-09) – Chair of the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Energy and Water Development – released the following statement on First Solar’s $185 million expansion in Northwest Ohio.
“I am leading the fight for American energy manufacturing and an all of the above energy strategy to bring good-paying jobs and economic growth to our region,” said Rep. Kaptur. “America’s energy future will be built right here in the heartland, and First Solar’s $185 million investment in Northwest Ohio is just the beginning. From the Defense Production Act to the Inflation Reduction Act, I will work with anyone – Republican or Democrat – and pull every lever to invest in Ohio’s workers and Ohio’s companies.”
In light of the Biden Administration’s decision earlier this year to suspend tariffs on solar imports from four Southeast Asian countries, Rep. Kaptur recently included $100 million in her House-passed fiscal year 2022 Energy and Water Development Appropriations bill to implement the Defense Production Act through the U.S. Department of Energy to invest in American companies’ expansion of clean energy manufacturing. Rep. Kaptur has also teamed with Senator Rob Portman to protect domestic solar industries and supported the Inflation Reduction Act to invest in an array of next generation energy technologies.
