Kaptur Statement on President Biden’s Signing of Infrastructure Investment & Jobs Act

November 15, 2021

Washington, D.C. – Today, Congresswoman Marcy Kaptur (OH-09) released the following statement after joining Congressional colleagues and Ohio leaders at the White House for President Joe Biden's signing of the Bipartisan Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act. President Biden's signing of the bill comes after more than 97 percent of House Democrats voted for the bill, while 94 percent of House Republicans opposed – including all but one Ohio Republican, Congressman Anthony Gonzalez (OH-16).

"President Biden's signing of the Bipartisan Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act is a historic win for the American people," said Rep. Kaptur. "From coast to coast – in every state, district, and territory of our nation – this bill will deliver significant new resources to restore our nation's crumbling infrastructure and create millions of good-paying jobs over the next decade. The Great Lakes region will be empowered with billions of dollars to rebuild our roads, bridges, and rail lines, revitalize our water infrastructure and airports, and deploy modern broadband connectivity and new carbon-free energy systems. By properly rewarding those who make and build what makes and build America, we will create a fairer, more just, and more prosperous future for our Middle Class workers, families, and communities."

The Bipartisan Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act will deliver nearly $14 billion to Ohio, including:

  • $1 billion for the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative
  • $9.2 billion for highways
  • $483 million for bridges
  • $1.2 billion for public transportation
  • $140 million for electric vehicle chargers
  • $100 million for high-speed broadband internet
  • $1.4 billion for clean drinking water infrastructure
  • $253 million for airports

Additionally, Ohio will benefit from and can apply for billions of dollars in national funding opportunities, including:

  • $17 billion for ports and waterways
  • $3.5 billion for home and community weatherization initiatives
  • $66 billion for rail
  • $21 billion for Superfund and brownfield sites
