Kaptur Statement on Senate Advancement of Security Supplemental Funding Legislation
Toledo, OH – Today, Congresswoman Marcy Kaptur (OH-09), Co-Founder and Co-Chair of the Congressional Ukraine Caucus released the following statement after Senate passage of a cloture motion to advance the Administration’s Security Supplemental funding request for Ukraine, Israel, Indo-Pacific partners, border security, humanitarian aid, and global assistance:
“I have long said that we need to pass the Supplemental aid package requested by the President without delay and without harmful political showboating. America’s commitment to Liberty and to humanitarian purpose should not be held hostage by a few extremists with narrow political agendas. Our allies in Ukraine, Israel, Taiwan, and those in desperate need of humanitarian aid in Gaza are relying on American leadership not brinksmanship.
“I applaud the Senate taking an important step toward passage of critical security supplemental aid and call on Speaker Johnson to allow a House vote as soon as possible following the likely final passage of this package in the Senate. In 16 days, we will mark 2 years since Putin’s illegal invasion of Ukraine, and we must stand by our ally as a leader of the free world to ensure that Liberty can triumph over tyranny — now is not the time for us to fall into isolationism and retreat to our own corner — we must stand strong by Ukraine in her hour of need.”
