Kaptur Statement on Vote to Keep the Federal Government Open

Washington, D.C. – Today, Congresswoman Marcy Kaptur (OH-09) released the following statement after voting late last night in support of H.R. 5304, legislation which will avert a shutdown of the federal government, deliver critical emergency relief to communities impacted by recent natural disasters, and prevent a catastrophic default on the nation's debt. Every House Democrat voted for the measure, while Republicans were unanimous in their opposition. The legislation will now be taken up by the Senate for its consideration.
"Ensuring the full operation of the United States federal government in the midst of a worldwide pandemic should not be a partisan issue. This legislation is critical to keeping Social Security offices open, providing the lifesaving care our veterans need, and continuing our nation's response to Covid-19. While we advance the Build Back Better agenda, we implore our Republican colleagues to work in good faith – not throw up partisan roadblocks designed to halt America's progress and harm those we have sworn an oath to serve."
