Kaptur Statement on Vote to Prevent Government Shutdown, Fund Emergency Programs

September 30, 2021

Washington, D.C. – Today, Congresswoman Marcy Kaptur (OH-09) released the following statement after the House passed legislation to fund the federal government through December 3, and deliver $28.6 billion in emergency relief to communities working to rebuild from the devastation unleashed by recent natural disasters. Every Democrat voted in support of the legislation, while 175 Republicans voted against.

"In the conversations I have had recently with hardworking families, seniors, and veterans, not a single person has said they want their parks to shut down, the EPA to stop inspecting drinking water, or the VA to delay benefits and services. Regardless of those who seek to obstruct, Congressional Democrats and President Biden will continue to work on behalf of the American people, and ensure our federal government remains open and operational."
