Kaptur Votes for Boost in Military Pay, Expansion of Buy America Requirements, Improvements to Housing for Military Families, and a Renewed Commitment to Liberty for Ukraine
Washington, DC – Congresswoman Marcy Kaptur (D-OH), voted to pass H.R. 2670, the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) of 2024 which continues to invest in the core of our national defense: service members, civilian workers, and their families; allies and partners; innovation and technology; our domestic industrial base; and military readiness. The bill authorizes $874.2 Billion in discretionary defense spending and is expected to now be signed into law by President Biden.
“Today’s vote to pass the NDAA was a vote in support of Liberty and our national security. America and our allies face the growing threat of a new Axis of Tyranny and Terrorism, including the likes of Russia, China, Iran, North Korea, and terrorist organizations such as Hamas,” said Congresswoman Marcy Kaptur. “This year’s NDAA reaffirms our commitment to America’s service members and international allies, including the besieged nation of Ukraine, which continue to fight for its liberty in the face of Tyranny. As a senior member of the House Appropriations Defense Subcommittee, I look forward to working closely with my colleagues in the Congress to pass appropriations legislation that will responsibly fund the many essential priorities agreed to in this NDAA.”
Included in the NDAA are several key priority provisions, including:
- 5.2% pay increase for military servicemembers
- $300 Million for the Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative, and full funding for the European Deterrence Initiative and Pacific Deterrence Initiatives
- Expansions to the Buy America Act, which ensures that military products are sourced from American industry and made by American workers
- $300 Million for the construction of new child care development centers
- Expanded Basic Needs Allowance program
- $1.7 Billion in investments for military family housing, and the replacement of unaccompanied housing
- $650 Million worth of investments in energy resilience and energy conservation projects
- Secured continued production of additional Ohio made Abrams tanks
- Report language requiring the Department of Defense to brief Congress on establishing an medal to recognize a servicemember who as a result of combat is the last surviving member of their unit
