Kaptur Votes to Cap Price of Insulin at $35 Per Month
Washington, D.C. – Today, Representative Marcy Kaptur (OH-09) released the following statement on the House passage of H.R. 6833 – the Affordable Insulin Now Act – which would cap out-of-pocket costs for insulin at no more than $35 per month under commercial health insurance plans and Medicare Part D. In a vote of 232-193, Rep. Kaptur joined every House Democrat to pass the bill, while nearly every House Republican voted against it. The bill will now be sent to the Senate for its consideration.
“Millions of Americans rely upon insulin every single day just to live their lives – but many are forced to choose between medication and groceries because of the greed of large pharmaceutical companies,” said Rep. Kaptur. “The lives and wellbeing of people are more important than corporate profits, and it’s time for this outrageous price-gouging to end. By capping the price of insulin at $35 per month, Democrats are fighting to ensure families and seniors are able to live with the dignity they deserve.”
