October 30: Kaptur Effort Helps Bring New Boys and Girls Club to Sherman School

At least 100 students will be assisted through variouseducational, recreational, health and social skills offerings in afterschool activities.
Noted Kaptur, “I applaud the efforts of the Boys & Girls Clubs tooffer quality activities developing the body, mind, and spirit of youngpeople in a structured and supervised setting in which they feelcomfortable. Many of our nation’s leading citizens took advantage ofthe Boys & Girls Clubs in the neighborhoods of their childhoods,and credit the lessons learned there as contributing to their success.We see these students participating now, and know that our future willbe better for the skills they gain today. We should also congratulateLagrange Development Corporation (LDC) for its multi-year effort toobtain agreement between Toledo Public Schools and the Boys and GirlsClubs to share this space, allowing a seamless move from in-school toafter-school activities and congratulations are due to Sherman Schoolstaff and parents and to TPS for their enthusiastic support of thispartnership.”
The Boys & Girls Club is dedicated to promoting responsibleleadership by developing youth’s character, educational and socialgrowth. Over 116 years, the Toledo Boys and Girls Clubs have servedthousands of young people.
The Sherman School Club will be open ten hours per week, 3:30 to 5:30PM Mondays through Fridays. University of Toledo volunteers will workwith students alongside Boys & Girls Club staff to tutor andprovide one-on-one assistance to 100 students.
