Kaptur Applauds Granting of Temporary Protected Status to Ukrainian Nationals

March 3, 2022

Washington, D.C. – Today, Congresswoman Marcy Kaptur (OH-09) released the following statement applauding the Biden Administration’s decision to grant Temporary Protected Status to Ukrainian nationals residing in the United States.

On February 28, 2022, Rep. Kaptur and a bipartisan group of House Members wrote a letter to President Joe Biden requesting he add Ukraine to the list of countries whose nationals are protected from deportation due to an armed conflict that poses grave risks to their safety. Today, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security announced it was granting Temporary Protected Status to Ukrainian nationals in the United States for 18 months.

“As Putin unleashes terror on innocent Ukrainian civilians, the Free World has an obligation to protect those who may yet fall under his murderous rampage,” said Rep. Kaptur. “The 30,000 Ukrainian nationals currently in the United States must be afforded the shelter that prevents them from being forced back into the setting of war. America has long been a refuge for those whose lives are threatened by immediate danger, and we will continue serving as this shining light of Liberty. I applaud President Biden and his Administration for acting swiftly in this humanitarian effort.”
