Toledo, OH – On Friday January 17, 2025 Congresswoman Marcy Kaptur (OH-09) a senior member of the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Defense held a reception to honor and announce her 2025 nominees from Ohio's 9th Congressional District to the United States Service Academies: the US Military Academy in West Point, NY; the US Naval Academy in Annapolis, MD; the US Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, CO; and the US Merchant Marine Academy in Kings Point, NY.

Washington, DC – Today, Congresswoman Marcy Kaptur (OH-09) released the following statement upon news that a hostage release and ceasefire agreement had been agreed to between Israel and Hamas.
 “On January 15th, negotiators for Hamas and Israel reached a ceasefire agreement to bring peace to Gaza for the first time since 2023. Today Israel voted to officially proceed with the agreement which begins with a 6-week ceasefire to take effect on Sunday, January 19th.

Washington, DC – Today, Congresswoman Marcy Kaptur (OH-09) announced a $2 Million Community Based Violence Intervention and Prevention Initiative (CVIPI) Site-Based award from the Department of Justice (DOJ) Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA) for the City of Toledo. This funding opportunity through the Department of Justice supports comprehensive, evidence-based efforts at reducing gun violence through partnership with community, local government, hospitals, victim service providers, law enforcement.

Washington, DC – Today, Congresswoman Marcy Kaptur (OH-09) announced a $4 Million PRO Housing award from the Department of Housing and Urban Development for the City of Toledo. Toledo was selected as one of 18 recipients nationwide that will receive part of a total $100 Million in an effort to help communities boost housing supply and lower housing costs.

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Congresswoman Marcy Kaptur (OH-09) and her colleagues on the bipartisan Great Lakes Task Force introduced the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative (GLRI) Act of 2025. This bipartisan bill will reauthorize the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative, which is set to expire at the end of FY 2026, for another five years through FY 2031. The bill increases the FY 2026 authorization level from $475 Million to $500 Million starting in FY 2027.

Washington, DC – Today, Congresswoman Marcy Kaptur (OH-09) celebrated the announcement of $1,107,700 from the Department of Transportation for the Swan Creek Greenway Planning project. This new federal funding will support planning, design, and community engagement activities for a multi-use trail along Swan Creek in Toledo to reconnect the Junction neighborhood to Downtown Toledo. The construction of Interstate 75 in the 1960’s displaced Junction residents and cut off the neighborhood from Downtown.

Washington, DC – Today, Congresswoman Marcy Kaptur (OH-09), Ranking Member of the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Energy and Water Development, announced a major award of $14,078,572 to the Lucas County Transportation Improvement District from the Federal Highway Administration’s Charging and Fueling Infrastructure Discretionary Grant Program.

Washington, DC – Today, Congresswoman Marcy Kaptur (OH-09), joined President Biden at the White House for the signing of the Social Security Fairness Act of 2023 into law. This bipartisan legislation which the Congresswoman cosponsored and helped pass into law eliminates the harmful Windfall Elimination Provision (WEP) and the Government Pensions Offset (GPO). The WEP and GPO reduce or eliminate the earned Social Security benefits of public servants, including police officers, mail carriers, firefighters, and educators.
