Congresswoman Kaptur lead a moment of silence to honor LieutenantColonel Kevin Sonnenberg at official ribbon-cutting ceremonies for theSonnenberg Complex at the Air National Guard's Toledo Express Airportbase.Lt. Col. Kevin Sonnenberg from the 180th Fighter Wing was killed whenhis F-16 fighter plane crashed in Iraq in June.

Congresswoman Kaptur secured nearly $7 million from the Department ofDefense to construct the new facility which is home to the 180th FWLogistics Readiness Squadron and replaced a nearly 50 year oldstructure.

$2 Million for New Facility at Dorr / Westwood in Science and Technology Corridor

MarcyKaptur announced that the U.S. Department of Commerce's EconomicDevelopment Administration (EDA) will award the University of Toledoand its Science and Technology Corridor, $2 million for theconstruction of UT's second high-tech business and jobs incubator.

Americawill send a new generation of explorers to the moon aboard NASA's Orion crewexploration vehicle. Making its first flights early in the next decade, Orionis part of the Constellation Program to send human explorers back to the moon,and then onward to Mars and other destinations in the solar system.

A component of the Vision for Space Exploration, Orion's development istaking place in parallel with missions to complete the International SpaceStation using the space shuttle before the shuttle is retired in 2010.

"From the Clean Air Act and Clean Water Act tocreation of the Environmental Protection Agency, our response to pollution hasbecome more robust. We have begun the cleanup of Lake Erie and the Great Lakes, which has spurred greater tourism and moreeconomic opportunities.

The North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) Trucking Safety Act wouldprohibit trucks based in Mexicofrom entering the U.S. fromentering the United Statesbeyond commercial zones until the U.S. Department of Transportation promulgatesrules for compliance by Mexican drivers and carriers with federal safetyregulations.

Congresswoman Kaptur, a member of the House Appropriations Committee, saidPlum Brook will be the site for integrated vertical tests of NASA'sfully-assembled new spacecraft, Orion, whose mission will be to explore Earth'sMoon and the planet Mars.

The contract will be carried out by the Glenn ResearchCenter, which last yearwas awarded the design of the service module component of the crew explorationvehicle (CEV), the next generation space vehicle. Testing and work on theproject will be done at the agency's Plum Brook Station in Sandusky.
