The funding was awarded through a competitive grant application through the Department of Homeland Security's (DHS) Federal Emergency Management Agency's (FEMA) Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response (SAFER) grant program.

Cleveland, OH – Today, U.S. Representatives Marcy Kaptur (D-OH) and Marcia Fudge (D-OH) released the following statement announcing $15 million in federal funds being awarded to the Greater Cleveland Regional Transit Authority (GCRTA). The project replaces 40 heavy rail vehicles with 34 heavy rail vehicles and makes associated infrastructure upgrades to the rail maintenance facility, equipment, and stations to accommodate the new vehicles.
