Toledo, OH – Today, Congresswoman Marcy Kaptur (OH-09) announced that Legal Aid of Western Ohio has been awarded a major federal grant through the Department of Veterans Affairs’ Legal Services for Homeless Veterans and Veterans At-Risk for Homelessness program. The $500,000 award will strengthen Legal Aid’s capacity to deliver life-changing legal services to Veterans in Northwest Ohio who are experiencing homelessness or are at risk of losing stable housing.

“Tonight, the government is on the verge of shutting down. This week I have been in Washington, at work, doing my job, fighting to keep the government open and protecting the healthcare of those in Northwest Ohio and across our nation. But my Republican colleagues are nowhere to be found. At the very moment families need stability and solutions, the GOP has literally walked out, leaving working people, seniors, and children to pay the price.

Toledo, OH – Today, Congresswoman Marcy Kaptur (OH-09) announced that the University of Toledo has been recognized with a new federal research award totaling $387,549 from the National Institute on Aging, part of the US Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). This funding will support cutting-edge research into the potential effects of L-Rha and L-Rha derivatives on neurodegenerative processes associated with Alzheimer’s disease.

The award, made under the Exploratory/Developmental Grants program, will fund research led by Dr. Peter R. Andreana, professor at the University of Toledo. The project will run through August 2027.

Washington, DC – Congresswoman Marcy Kaptur (OH-09), Co-Chair of the House Great Lakes Task Force, traveled to Ottawa, Canada today alongside Republican Co-Chair of the House Great Lakes Task Force Congressman Bill Huizenga (MI-04) to lead a bipartisan dialogue as part of the US-Canada Interparliamentary Group, a binational forum focused on strengthening cross-border cooperation.
Canada is Ohio’s largest trading partner, and together our economies form what many economists call ‘The Great Lakes Nation.’ It is the third-largest economy in the world. Canada and the United States are tied together by commerce, culture, geography, and shared history.

Washington, DC: September 12, 2016. (PCP) Last Friday, September 9, Congressman Richard Hanna (R-NY) introduced a bipartisan resolution highlighting the political and refugee crisis in Lebanon to coincide with IDC's third annual National Advocacy Day.

The resolution expresses the sense of the House of Representatives on the challenges posed to long-term stability in Lebanon by the conflict in Syria as a result of violent attacks against Lebanese citizens perpetrated by combatants active in Syria and a massive influx of refugees fleeing the conflict.

Lebanon has welcomed 1 million Syrian refugees – nearly 1/4 its population; resolution voices support for Lebanese Armed Forces against ISIS and Hezbollah

U.S. Representative Richard Hanna (R-NY) and Representative Marcy Kaptur (D-OH) today introduced a resolution that acknowledges the challenges Lebanon faces for long-term stability in the region due to the Syrian conflict. The resolution also reaffirms U.S. support for our Middle East ally.

Several hundred area residents and first responders attended the dedication of the 911 First Responders Last Call Memorial today at Toledo Memorial Park.

The monument was completed today by the installation of an 18-foot, 13,000-pound steel beam from the World Trade Center. The beam was hoisted by a crane on top of a 9.5-foot tall concrete and granite base.

TOLEDO - The First Responders Last Call Memorial is now complete at Toledo Memorial Park.

Saturday's dedication ceremony brought a full morning of events, starting with a motorcade that escorted one of the last beams from the World Trade Center downtown to the park.

The beam was slowly put into place on the top of the memorial, along with a flag.

A crowd of people watched as the project, years in the making, was finished.

PARMA, Ohio – Parma’s Ukrainian American community commemorated the 25th anniversary of Ukraine’s independence with a parade. The annual parade kicked-off at 11 a.m. on Saturday, August 27, from Cleveland Selfreliance Federal Credit Union, the entryway to Ukrainian Village, a 1.5 mile stretch along Parma’s main thoroughfare, State Road.
