Sandusky, OH – Today, Congresswoman Marcy Kaptur (OH-09) highlighted a $75,000 federal investment awarded to the Erie County Board of Developmental Disabilities through the US Department of Agriculture’s Housing Preservation Grant (HPG) program, bringing critical resources to help repair and rehabilitate rural housing in the Sandusky area.

Toledo, OH — Today, Congresswoman Marcy Kaptur (OH-09), a senior member of the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Defense, issued the following statement: 

“Overnight, the United States launched an illegal, large scale military attack against the nation of Venezuela. We have not passed a Congressional authorization to deploy our troops into harm’s way. No legal authority was granted by Congress to install or prop up an interim government of Venezuela.

Toledo, OH — Today, Congresswoman Marcy Kaptur (OH-09), a senior member of the House Appropriations Committee announced that the City of Toledo, Lucas County, and the Toledo Metropolitan Area Council of Governments have been awarded three separate grants totaling $1,275,370 through the US Department of Transportation (USDOT) Safe Streets and Roads for All (SS4A) initiative. These awards will advance efforts across Lucas County, Ottawa County, and Sandusky County to create safer, more navigable streets through a comprehensive approach.

Sandusky, OH – Today, Congresswoman Marcy Kaptur (OH-09), announced Kia Preston of Perkins High School in Erie County as the winner of the 2025 Congressional App Challenge from Ohio’s 9th Congressional District for their app “Light Teachings.” Congresswoman Kaptur received a total of 16 applications this year from six schools in Ohio’s 9th Congressional District including: Bryan High School, Sandusky High School, Perkins High School, Tinora High School, Sylvania Northview High School and Sylvania Southview High School. Defiance, Erie, Lucas and Williams Counties were each represented.

Toledo, OH – Today, Congresswoman Marcy Kaptur (OH-09) announced the delivery of $4.9 Million in federal funding through the FY24 FEMA Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) and Staffing For Adequate Fire and Emergency Response (SAFER) programs to fire departments across Northwest Ohio, marking a higher level of funding than the previous year and providing critical resources that directly enhance firefighter and public safety.

"Uncle Martin," as Donzaleigh Abernathy called the Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr., pushed her to overcome her fear, just like he did the nation's.

Fear doesn't just hold an individual back from being their true self, it drives people apart. Those that don't know each other fear each other.

These were themes Ms. Abernathy tried to convey to a crowd in Toledo Monday on the holiday to remember the slain civil rights leader.

"Now, more than ever, America, we must sit down at the table together," she said.

WASHINGTON — A decade-long effort to bring a new statue to the U.S. Capitol to represent Ohio ended Wednesday when lawmakers unveiled a statue of Thomas Edison at the U.S. Capitol Building Wednesday.

Top members of Congress, including House Speaker Paul Ryan, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi vied with Ohio lawmakers to give the best speeches honoring Edison, inventor of the light bulb, the phonograph record and many other staples of modern life.
