Washington, D.C. — Congresswoman Marcy Kaptur (D-OH) released the following statement following the death of Toni Morrison:

"Toni Morrison was Ohio's first lady of literature," said Rep. Kaptur. "The pride of Lorain, she gave voice to millions of people who needed one — not just in Ohio and not just in the United States, but around the world. Her exquisite ability as a storyteller and novelist was forged in her experience as an African-American girl born in the depths of the Great Depression and almost literally in the shadows of a steel mill."

Washington, D.C. — Congresswoman Marcy Kaptur (D-OH), the longest serving woman in the House of Representatives and Dean of the Ohio delegation, released the following statement:

"There is not a single community across the U.S. that has been spared from the tragedy of gun violence and mass shootings," said Rep. Kaptur. "Today, our hearts hang heavy for the families and people of Dayton, Ohio and El Paso, Texas, where in the span of less than thirteen hours two shootings carried by domestic terrorists resulted in the deaths of 31 people – 9 in Dayton and 22 in El Paso."

WASHINGTON — Congresswoman Marcy Kaptur (OH-09), Chair of the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Energy and Water Development, released the following statement after it was announced the U.S. Department of Transportation will award $9,000,000 in federal funds under the Infrastructure For Rebuilding America (INFRA) Grant Program to the Northeast Ohio Areawide Coordinating Agency (NOACA) to stabilize the Cuyahoga River's Irishtown Bend. The federal funding comes in addition to a $3.5 million investment pledged by NOACA announced on Monday, on top of $19 million previously committed, bringing to total funding to roughly $31.5 million.

Washington, D.C. — Today, Congresswoman Marcy Kaptur (D-OH) voted to pass the Raise the Wage Act, a landmark piece of legislation to gradually increase the federal minimum wage to $15 over six years. According to independent economic analysis, the bill would increase pay for up to 33 million American workers, including 128,300 workers (39.8%) in Ohio's Ninth Congressional District. The average wage increase for affected workers in OH-9 would be $3,200.

Washington, D.C. — Today, Congresswoman Marcy Kaptur (OH-09), introduced the Independent Labor Secretariat for Fair Trade Deals Act of 2019, legislation that would establish an independent Labor Secretariat with the authority to address transnational issues relating to labor, monitor and enforce labor-related trade agreement provisions, and provide research relating to the effects of trade agreements on jobs and communities in the countries covered by the agreement.
