"Today, Ohio's Southern District Court justly and unanimously ruled for the people of Ohio," said Rep. Kaptur. "Extreme radical partisan gerrymandering is about politicians picking their constituents. In a healthy democracy, constituents should be those who pick their elected leaders. In Ohio, our deeply partisan and illegally drawn districts were gerrymandered by Republicans and for Republicans, not for the people. These districts were drawn without regard for existing communities or counties and purposefully diluted the votes of millions of Ohioans. I am optimistic that today's ruling moves us one step closer to restoration of a fair electoral system in the Buckeye State.

Washington, D.C. — Today, Congresswoman Marcy Kaptur (OH-9), Chair of the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Energy and Water Development, voted to pass H.R. 9, the Climate Action Now Act, legislation requiring the Trump Administration to remain in the Paris Climate Accord and develop a plan for how the United States will meet its commitments to reduce pollution and protect our environment.

Washington, D.C. — Today, Congresswoman Marcy Kaptur (OH-9) released the following statement after a veteran died by suicide outside the Louis Stokes VA Medical Center in Cleveland:

"I am heartbroken following the suicide of a veteran outside the Cleveland VA this morning," said Rep. Kaptur. "The level of pain that brings someone to suicide is fortunately unimaginable to many of us. My sincere condolences and prayers are with the veteran's family and friends during this immensely difficult time."

"Even as Congress and the American people begin to digest the implications of the Mueller Report, I remain deeply concerned by Attorney General Barr's handling of the Special Counsel's investigation into Russian involvement in the 2016 election," said Rep. Kaptur. "The Attorney General has injected himself as an unnecessary filter in this matter. His actions do not inspire confidence in his impartiality and have failed to provide closure to the American people."

Washington, D.C. — Congresswoman Marcy Kaptur (OH-09), senior member of the House Appropriations Committee, today announced $425,000 in federal funds for The Fair Housing Center in Toledo to strengthen its work to prevent and eliminate housing discrimination. The funds were allocated through the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Fair Housing Initiatives Program (FHIP).

Washington, D.C. — Today, Congresswoman Marcy Kaptur (OH-09) voted to pass the bipartisan H.R. 1644, the Save the Internet Act. The legislation restores popular net neutrality protections for consumers and small businesses after President Trump ended these vital protections in a partisan move last year. The Save the Internet Act passed the House by a vote of 232-190.

Washington, D.C. — Congresswoman Marcy Kaptur (OH-09), the House's longest serving woman, led a group of 26 House members to introduce the Return to Prudent Banking Act of 2019, legislation that would reinstate and expand the historic provisions of the Glass-Steagall Act of 1933 restricting affiliations between commercial and investment banks. The legislation has been endorsed by AFL-CIO, the International Brotherhood of Teamsters, Communications Workers of America, International Federation of Professional and Technical Engineers, Public Citizen, and Take on Wall Street.
