In a vote of 256-174, Rep. Kaptur joined every House Democrat to pass the bill which will provide access to VA healthcare and benefits to millions of veterans exposed to toxic substances. Lewis Act, which combined the Freedom to Vote Act and the John R. Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act into one bill. In a vote of 220-203, Rep. Kaptur joined every House Democrat to pass the bill, while House Republicans were unanimous in their opposition. The bill will now be sent to the Senate for its consideration.

The committee, made up of eight Democratic Members of Congress selected by Speaker Nancy Pelosi, is tasked with addressing growing issues of inequality that plague the country. While established as a bipartisan body, no Republican Members of Congress chose to participate in today's hearing.

Washington, D.C. – Today, Congresswoman Marcy Kaptur (D-OH), Dean of Ohio's Congressional delegation and the longest serving woman in the history of the U.S. House of Representatives, released the following statement after the U.S. Census Bureau reported the first 2020 Census results, which included the number of seats each state will have in the U.S. House of Representatives. The Census Bureau found that Ohio will lose one seat, dropping from 16 Members of Congress to 15.
